Applesauce Cake

1 cup sugar
½ cup shortening
1 ½ cups Applesauce
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. clove
2 ¼ cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda
½ cup hot water

Mix all ingredients until smooth.  Grease and flour a 9" x 12" pan.  Heat oven to 350° F.  Bake 45 minutes.
Top with cream cheese frosting.
